O.K. These are interview questions that I have recently asked an author to
answer in regards to J.D. Salinger, and specifically, my project. But I
would love to hear what everyone has to say. Please send an answers you want
to give directly to me (unless you think everyone is interested) with your
name, and who you are (writer? student? Just a person who likes Salinger?)
Thanks!

1. If Mr. Salinger wishes to live a solitary life, what do you think his
motivation is for publishing an old story (Hapworth) in book form? If he
wants to be left alone, why rekindle any attention at all?

2. J.D. Salinger has such a following that some have even labeled it
"cult-like". In your opinion, what is it about his writing that is so
appealing to so many people, and allows his message to be carried throughout
the years?

3. Catcher in the Rye, especially Holden Caulfield, has been compared and
mirrored with Huck Finn, Nick Carraway and Jake Barnes. All these characters
have a background of innocence. How innocent is Holden, and how does that
help the theme of Catcher in the Rye?

4. If you were to ask J.D. Salinger one question what would you ask?
Assuming he would respond, what do you think he would say?

5. Do you think that Salinger's characters hold any similarities to each
other? Which ones?

6. How much of himself does Salinger put in each of his characters?

7. What do you believe is the reason for Salinger's silence? When he dies
(and I hope he lives for many happy years to come), do you think more works
will surface, or will his silence continue through his relatives?

Think about it, and let me know!
Meredith
