heehee! just kidding. he's one of the great authors of the 20th century,
and has this rare ability to suck you into reading his entire
novel in one sitting, from the first line. he wrote the metamorphosis
("one morning gregor samsa awoke to find that he had turned into a large
brown bug"), the Trial ("someone must have been telling lies about K....")
and the letter to his father ("Dear Father, you asked me once why i
maintain that i am afraid of you."), a work that i can relate to probably
the best out of any work of literature. i'm paraphrasing the above, of
course - i really need to get a kafka anthology. you could say that
salinger is kafka-esque in his ability to hold a reader's attention.
i'm not really going to say anything about the whole generation thing, but
after these past few weeks, i have only this to say about mr. kennis: love
him or hate him (or more importantly, his ideas), you almost have to
admire his pretty much abnormal dedication (especially for a college
student, or anyone with a job) to this list. i'm starting to worry about
you, andrew - i hope you're not losing sleep or missing classes on acount
of email (cheesy smiley face, in US-ASCII characters)
