anyone ever read _Agyar_ by steven brust? the main character refuses to look at
any contemporary art. it has to be at least fifty years old, because he figures
if it's still around by that time it must be pretty good. this way he doesn't
have to waste his time sifting through all the garbage of an "era" to find the
gold. pretty good theory, seems to me. of course he was an immortal vampire
and so it was a little more feasible for him to practice it . . .
