as the object of so much more of jds's work, ithink it entirely appropriate that
seymour is of great interest to the group. but holden does deserve some
consideration, so . . .
i don't think that holden's life will parallel seymour's. holden seems to me
much more like buddy, but even that is stretching it. holden isn't trying to
achieve some zen ideal or anything, he just wants to get a hold of something
pure. also, holden isn't quite the pedant seymour is, and therefore, i think he
searches for a simpler, more genuine truth. seymour's life-goal seems to be so
unattainable that he must kill himself out of despair. holden has no desire to
be a "dead cat."
this isn't making as much sense as i would like, and i have to go to class.
somebody else please do a better job of this than i have.
