> He was an innocent bystander. > He was an Innocent Bystander. > He was an "Innocent Bystander." > HE was an innocent bystander. > He WAS an innocent bystander. > He was an "innocent" bystander. > He was an innocent "Bystander." this whole thing reminds me of chandler's (from friends, the sitcom) way of talking. i do it quite a lot, which leads, of course, to ridicule among my peers, but it's really just a verbal tic, and generally only comes out when i'm angry. i think that it's an extension of buddy, and not an extension of salinger. i think the glasses inherited that kind of verbal tic from their mother (remember bessie was 'surely the only woman in the world who can write a letter in invisible italics') it seems as thought the glasses, performers one and all, have a tendency to dramatise and exaggerate everday things hence te captalisation and italics...notice how it appears mostly in the dialogue and first person narration... what on earth am i saying? :helena
