I HATED Branagh's take on Hamlet as much as I LOVED his version of Much
Ado About Nothing.  Mel Gibson's Hamlet was much better, in my opinion.  

I think Hamlet is about as close to being recognized as one of
Shakespeare's best (or Western Lit's best, for that matter) as any other
play, but it's not my personal favorite.
