Florie, Hi! I've read _AHITW_by Joyce Maynard but have a different take
than you...yes, there are flashes of Holden in Maynard's portrait,but I
don't think her book shows much more than the distorted gossip from one
side of a very old love affair...Salinger is human and just cause he
writes about Teddy's or Seymour's or even Holden's, holding him up to
those measuring sticks seems unfair.  I guess I try and evaluate Salinger
from his writing since what we know of his life is limited and since I
like to think more about how reader and text "play" than the paly of
author and text...(in no small part why I didn't find Maynard to be a good
writer....) will
