Howdy Bananafish,

On my way to work I caught a report on All Things Considered about a new
play that is being produced by Matt Salinger (Son of J.D.). Below is the
synopsis from NPR's web page:
http://search.npr.org/cf/cmn/cmnpd01fm.cfm?PrgDate=05/08/2001&PrgID=2

'The Syringa Tree' -- A new one-woman play now running off-Broadway tells
the intertwined stories of two families -- one black, one white -- in
apartheid-era South Africa. The play is semi-autobiographical -- based on
the experiences and memories of its writer/star, Pamela Gien, who left South
Africa in 1983 and hasn't been back since. Gien plays a total of 28
characters, black and white. The Syringa Tree has an open-ended run at
Playhouse 91 in New York. Jeff Lunden reports. (7:30)

Here is the official web site for the play:

It even has a Matt Salinger Biography for those interested.

ObSal: Do you think JD is proud of his son? Jealous? What kind of films
would he have made if Hollywood had not pissed him off? Maybe some of our
NY members could make it to the show and tell us all what they think. Just
some ideas to add fresh water to the bananafishbowl.
