Yes, I agree--finding Rilke influences in the stories makes sense my
reading of the poem made me imagine that Salinger could have been
inspired to write fiction after reading a poem like "The Dwarf's
Song." Salinger certainly makes it clear in APDFB that Rilke has
affected Seymour and it seems reasonable to imagine a writer wanting
to display his "seeds." I think that Salinger has always valued
poetry in a very creative way and love the ways his prose can be read
poetically. Section man alert: I have a piece coming out in a book
on a prose writer titled "The Ongoing Poetry of Andre Dubus." Yes,
yes, of course I used Salinger and his Seymour character to support
the idea that poetry may imaginatively fuse with prose. Will
