Here's an interesting post from a guy I met:
------------------
Dear Chris,
J.D.Salinger apparently stayed in Collipriest House
in
1944 prior to the D-Day landings. The House which is a stately home
built in
the early 1700's was lent to the US troops who were billeted outside
Tiverton,Devon before they sailed for Normandy. There is more
information on
Salinger in the library and I will try and get it for you.He was in
special
forces apparently.Another famous American also there at the time was
Joe
Louis, the brown bomber, and Heavey weight champion of the world. There
are
some carvings on the building and in the nearby trees left by the
American
troops.Eisenhower also visited the House although he stayed on the
other
side of the river Exe in another house.JD hasn't replied to my e-mail!

                            Regards,

                                Paul

------------------

I'll let y'all know if I get more info...anyone ever been to this
place/willing to visit and report back?

Sincerely,
