I like where Jim may be going with his references to images of
Salinger in movies...one way you could organize your study is to
think about Salinger's myth (reclusive writer reaches us with words
but can't take the contact anymore) and how his own fiction furthers
his myth...

Another way to do this Lucy (the best) (not to be confused with
Lucy-Ruth) (also the best!) is to think about characters more
closely. When you mentioned you'd like to focus on Caulfield, I was
sort of hoping for Phoebe. And a few of the Glasses could be Franny
and Boo, couldn't they? In other words, I think there is plenty to be
thought about (thanks to Allison Adamski's help) when we consider
Salinger's female characters...I think my favorite idea for you (and
I'm just tossing it out as another way to say hello and welcome to
bananfish) is what if you were Franny doing this monologue? will
