Greetings - I'm just joining this group so I'll let you know a little
about myself. I'm 23 years old and I'm from Nashville, Tennessee but I'm
currently living in Dublin, Ireland. I've lived and worked here for the
last year and I will be attending Trinity University in Dublin this fall
to get a Master's Degree. I love living here but if had my way (and had
no student loans) I would be happiest just backpacking all around the
world.
Anyway, I'm a Salinger fan but I still have a lot of his work left to
read. From glancing through some of the past archives of this site I
know that many of you are very knowledgeable about all of JDS's work so
I'm sure I'll learn a lot from you. I'm planning to dig around some used
book shops and libraries around here to see if I can find some more of
his work. I know it might be a bit trite to say this but Catcher in the
Rye (as of now) is without a doubt my favorite work by Salinger. To be
completely honest I use it as a test whenever I meet a guy whom I might
be interested in dating. If he has read Catcher and doesn't like it then
he's gone without a second thought. If he hasn't read it but attempts to
when I mention what a great book it is and then doesn't finish it then
he's history as well. The last guy I started dating borrowed my copy of
it, fell asleep while reading the second page and then used it under one
of the legs of his nightstand to keep it from being lopsided. He was
lucky to get out alive. I simply don't trust any man who doesn't like
that book. Well, that's all for now. I hope that introduction was
sufficient. . .
