He has some good thoughts on the one-hand clapping koan, and tells some
interesting anecdotes I hadn't heard of yet. His concept of "Salinger's wall"
is thoughtful, but open to criticism. The structure was annoying because he
talks about himself more than a magazine writer should, and he tears off on
these huge digressions. The premise was annoying because of the huge invasion
of privacy involved. He sets it up as a pilgrimage to a hero he expects
to welcome him, but in the end he pretends to be surprised that JDS
almost ran him over and left him with a lump at the bottom of his
stomach. Then, as an afterthought, he pleads with the dear reader not to
retrace his steps. Sure. My guess is that this article will send no fewer
than 5 baker's dozens to JDS' house. Bah! Bah, again!
