Call for Essays:

Special Issue of the _Journal of Gay, Lesbian, and Bisexual Identity_:

"Beyond Identity: Queer Values and the Search for Community"

This special issue will be devoted to thinking critically and personally
about the kinds of values possibly contained in or suggested by the
concept "queer."

Our primary question, while not simple, is simply put: what are the
common values which GLBT peoples can share and articulate?

This special issue of the _Journal of Gay, Lesbian, and Bisexual Identity_
addresses this issue with a number of academic, personal, and
speculative essays [that] attempt to answer the question, "What are queer
values?" Each author has been set the task (or has set himself or herself
the
task) of thinking through the values which might bind together people who
identify in a multitude of different and divergent ways. Our shared
values come from an understanding that (1) we do NOT all share the same
identity and (2) community spirit cannot be maintained by simply sharing
the same political goals and ends. Instead, we might stand a better
chance of fostering community--and thinking and acting proactively--if we
know what values we hold to be important, worth defending, and worth
promulgating.
