a little project

Fish,

A friend of mine who was on the Dinosaur Jr. mailing list in his sordid past
told me a story this weekend. When he was on the list, someone came up
with the idea to take some of the mailing list members who were in bands
(of which there were many), have those bands record a couple of original
songs, send it to someone on the list who had a CD burner, and create a
Dinosaur Jr. mailing list only compilation cd which they sent out to
anyone on the list who was interested. I'm not sure if the cd was free or
not (probably cost the amount of the cd-r), but I thought that this idea,
with a slight variation, would make a killer project for the list,
something to really revive the list after it's recent "post vs. trading"
wars and the columbine swamp that the entire nation has gotten bogged down
in. It would really wake us all up a little. Instead of taking a passive
view on writing, we could get active for once. We should just all write
or find some old writing (of your own, only original work please) of any
genre, lightly edited if indeed it is edited at all (on second thought,
no editing...but it must be signed). Then we'll send it to some poor sap to
cut and paste into a 'zine type thing, or even just some pages stapled
together, whatever. Then we distribute our brain-child to those on the list that are
interested in the finished product.
Don't look to me to be the guiding light, though. I am just the idea man
and eager contributor. I have no idea how to go about the publishing
aspect (and I do think that it should be published...e-zine stuff doesn't
pack the same emotional wallop), so I leave that up to you guys to figure
out. Support this and help out if you think this is a worthwhile idea. I
for one am most interested to see what the fevered minds on this list can
come up with.
