Subject: The Jesus-prayer

Hi fishes,
well, I\'ve been in and out of the pond for quite a long time, but never really contributed anything to all
the sophisticated discussions (or the less s. ones)... I live in Budapest, Hungary, and study for entrance
exams to uni right now...
I don\'t know if the question has been discussed already or not.. My over all Salinger fav is Franny and
Zooey, and just a few days ago somehow the Jesus-prayer came to my mind again... So I got out all
my books on the subject.. Per-Olof J..\'s book on the prayer --- whatever his name is --- , The first
volume of Philokalia and also The Way of the Pilgrim... I also found an amazing number of websites
regarding the prayer.
Where did Salinger hear about all this? What do you think about it? Did any of you try it? Why is it so
dangerous to try to synchronize the prayer with the rhythm of the heart? (In the story it\'s only Lane
who mentions the problem, but every source says it\'s extremely dangerous.)
I had many questions but it seems I forgot them...

P.S. As far as I remember we had a priest in the pond some day... but I haven\'t heard of him for long
now.. Is he still around, or does anyone know his email address? I\'d like to contact him...
