Tim,

I love and actually thought about all of these (except *Shakes. In Love*,
which I skipped right over for my own reasons...). The cute *George Lucas in
Love* film is very funny. If you like such things, you should check out
"Moses Versus Godzilla" another popular little online short available at

http://www.mediatrip.com/film/movies_on_demand/857.html

The Kafka film is fun and has a fine partner of a film in a work called
*Kafka's Loves* (in Spanish) that shows Franz dealing with the women in his
life while a modern day filmmaker tries to make a movie about Franz trying to
deal with the women in his life.

I thought of *Decon. Harry* and *Mahattan* and even *Stardust Memories*, but
the Woody film that finally made the cut was a different one.

The four films that made the schedule, for those who care, turned out to be
*Barton Fink* -- *Interiors* -- *Naked Lunch* -- and, for its insight to the
discipline needed for the creative process and for the lessons and the laughs
at term's end -- *American Movie* (the funniest film I have seen in years).

I left out my very favorite film about a writer writing, because it would be
too much to set up for my kids and they have no real patience for wit -- that
would be Alan Rudolph's *Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle*. But then of
course, I may very well be in love with Jennifer Jason-Leigh (yes, I am
almost sure I am). That's another problem.

Anyway, thanks to all who sent wonderful ideas. There are books in the
course too, including *The Bell Jar* and *A Moveable Feast* and *Chronicle of
a Death Foretold* and even (again for final week fun) *Fear and Loathing in
Las Vegas*.

Now to designing my Romantic and Beat Poetry class in the Spring...

Thanks again to all,

--John

ObSal: Of course I thought about teaching "Seymour:" -- but as I looked back
over it I found myself not wanting to spend my work week treating it as a
duty.
