I don't think it's ever spelled out explicitly. In "With Love and
Squalor," one of the essayists says with section-man certainty that it
is Yale, but given the references in "Franny" to it being "the Yale
game," I'd have to conclude that Lane's school is PLAYING Yale (at
least that's how I read it, else EVERY game Lane's team played would be
"the Yale game" if Lane were truly at Yale.
I'm half out of my mind with sleeplessness (another current topic in
this week's or last's of the NYer), so if this seems incoherent,
please excuse my involuntary mind-wandering.
