according to paul alexander's research, had whit
burnett's funding from lippincott co. not disappeared,
in 1946 salinger would have published a volume of
short stories, titled *The Young Folks*.

the stories would have been:

the daughter of the late, great man

the last and the best of the peter pans

bitsy

boy standing in tennessee

the children's echelon

two lonely men

a young man in a stuffed shirt

the magic foxhole

what got curtis in the woodshed

the ocean full of bowling balls

elaine

both parties concerned

the long debut of lois taggett

the young folks

i'm crazy

once a week won't kill you

last day of the last furlough

soft-boiled sargeant

a boy in france

slight rebellion off madison

[[double-spaced for the benefit of cecilia]]
