Has anyone read Rule of the Bone? If so, what are your reactions? i heard very
good things about it, and also numerous comparisons to CITR, but after i
finished it i was VERY disappointed; it seem very contrived and even more
superficial, and just overall lacking in punch and charisma. secondly, is
anyone else getting tired by any book or movie having even a slice of teen
angst being referred to or reviewed as "this generation's holden caulfied," or
"a catcher in the rye for the new millenium," etc? i believe i see 2-3 books a
year with these reviews on them, and while i used to readily buy them, i know
understand that they cannot compare to the original- thoughts on this? and one
less tangential issue that just sprung to mind - has anyone else ever had the
thought that some reviewers or critics might be on a publishing house's
"favorite's list," or being receiving perks or extras in some other way, like
there is an understanding that favorable, indeed quotable reviews will result
in goodies elsewhere?
