Interesting. I never would have made the comparison, especially since
Eggers's book is far more ... open in a self-referential sort of way.

It's an honest book about a young(ish) man, so I suppose one could find a
parallel there, and then, it's disaffected as all youth literature seems
to be, but. No, I don't think so.

Have you ever seen Eggers's magazine, McSweeney's? There's a web version
that contains stories that aren't printed. It's rather amusing:
