You have been suggesting that readers produce meaning rather than find it,
but I haven't caught your explanation of how.

What stops readers from producing meaning where no author meant any at all
(or even existed)? What is it, exactly, that makes a good book different
from a bad one, if the reader himself can be a producer of meaning?
Shouldn't the best readers, then, find no bad book?
