Just a matter of Limey sloppiness no doubt Scottie.

I'm intrigued that Tim should feel so mortified on behalf
of the producers of this film which - if, as he says, it's
the BBC production of a two or three years ago -
struck me as quite a respectable stab at presenting
a writer to an audience that might not have known as
much about him as your fully certified, paid-up Bananafish.
As I remember - & it isn't all that much - its proposition
was the maiming of a rather facile, rather priviledged dude
by the experience of war & his conversion thereby into
a real, serious writer searching for some undamaged place
- in his case the lost Elysium of childhood. Maybe not
the most original idea - but surely not the most obtuse either.
I personally had a tiny frémissement seeing & hearing
the sixty-five year old dowager Franny Glass - & those
old chums from the Valley Forge Military Academy
(or wherever.) These are the items Tim himself picks out
to commend. What was so dreadful that warrants the image
of the barrel being scraped?
Reaching for my cigar & patting the couch invitingly, I recall
how often an unacceptable emotion can find expression
only in an apparently unrelated, or even contradictory one:
unacknowledged lust in mockery, prurient excitement in ennui,
hostility in zealous concern, rage in embarrassment & so on.
I note too, that Tim's contributions to the film were, in the end,
spurned.
Hmm.
