leonard's 1941 new year's resolution was to grow a
beard. virginia hated it. told him so. but he
persisted.
by march 28th, it had all gotten to be too much.
sometime in april (in remorse), leonard shaved it off.
there is only one extant photo of this hitherto
unknown beard. it's in the private woolf collection
of one michael cunningham.
