I read that Cold Mountain by Charles Frazier won the National book
award for fiction. I read it a few months ago and it does have some
excellent descriptive language, very evocative, but the book could have
used some real editing. The story actually gets tedious at times but you
keep reading waiting for the language to soar again, and it does again
and again. Judged as a whole I have to think there must of been a better
work of fiction in 97. Any nominations?
