Jane Austen is not difficult. Dickens is not difficult. Even Shakespeare isn't that difficult. What *is* difficult is convincing a bunch of high school kids who would really rather be somewhere else that taking time out of playing computer games, watching TV and playing sports that it is worthwhile. I'm not talking about kids who enjoy reading or enjoy English class. I'm talking about kids who'd rather do anything but sit down and read a book. These are the people English teachers are really teaching to.
