"For years now, I've been contemplating writing a "female" ON THE ROAD, to explore where women have to "go" to understand their world. Does anyone know of one already out? I'd love to read it." --Kari Unfortunately, I think it's out. And I think it's called Thelma & Louise. As for On the Road, I tried really hard to get into that book, but it just didn't happen. You know I actually never finished it with about 20 pages left. I honestly didn't even care. I'm sure this is due in part to my intellectual incapacities, much like when I tried to read A Tale of Two Cities and never got past the second page. "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. It was an age of blah, it was an age of blah," I have trouble taking Kerouac seriously. You know he wrote that damn book in about a day straight, just typing on this big roll of paper. All stream-of-consciousness, all in one spurt of awakeness (not necessarily awareness). It stands as a testament to the time in which it was written by a guy who was part of a generation. That's pretty much what I see it as. He has moments of really writing, but most of his writing sucks. So if you thought you were in trouble for your response, just guess how many retorts this post will generate. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
