Wie gehts!

I'm a neophyte, so be gentle!

Question: Does anyone know what prompted Little, Brown and Company to
dare to change the cover of Catcher? Few books are known by their
covers--Catcher is one of those books. So famous is the yellow on red
cover that Jerry Magure makes reference to it in the film by the same
name. And I see that Mel Gibson can frequently be seen clutching the
"old" cover as opposed to the new stark white cover in "conspiracy
theory."

If LBH wanted to change the cover, why would they choose something so
cheesy as this white with a rainbow arch in the corner? Very un-Holden
like. As a matter of fact, holden would sure find it "lousy, goddamn
stupid, I swear to God, it really was."

The book is so much about opposing change. Remember how much Holden
treasured those statues at the museum frozen in time? Some things
should remain the same. How ironic that LBH would so dramatically
tamper with the famous "face" of this novel.
