In a message dated 98-11-18 15:06:28 EST, you write:

<< All really wanted to say is that you have made him out to be more than
hes is. J.D. is still a person, and some of you(not all), from what I
have read in the archives and current letters, make him out to be some
sort of omniscient godlike figure and his books are holy texts to be
 deciphered. >>

I like to think that my opinion of JD is one of respect, high respect
because he's an amazing artist. He has a stlye of writing which I find highly
enjoyable and interesting also because by reading slightly into it, it sends
you on tangents about other things, for example, it's peak my interest in
different religions. Another point I'd like to make, is when you think
someone or something they do is absolutly wonderful and can't imagine yourself
possesing that kind of talent, you do regard them as 'higher' or hold them in
a different light. For example, when I was younger I saw my older sister as
god-like. I wished I could be like her, of course I knew she was human and
not a god or nearly perfect, but my respect for her made me think of her as if
she was semi-god-like. Understand?

>"What I also see is the disconnecting of the work from the
>author himself."

Yes I admit I do this. I'm not sure if I should or not though. Do you think
Salinger brings a lot of himself or his life into his stories? I don't know
enough about him to answer that. And if he does is it really relavant to
understanding his works?
