I've just recently discovered that Uncle Wiggily was a cartoon character. From about the turn of the century until 1925 it was a comic strip drawn by Lansing Cambell and written by Howard Garris. After that it became a series of children's books, apparently just done by Garris. These were being done at least until 1939. It's been described as similar to Winnie the Pooh and Pogo. There were some dolls made too. Uncle Wiggily was a rabbit. Has anyone heard more about this and do you have any ideas on why the cartoons/stories were important enough to Salinger that he would work the name into a title of his stories. Also, any idea what the plot of the books/cartoons might have been like?
