CITR covers. Ah, now that's an interesting topic. The first copy I ever read was a standard silver `Penguin Classics' cover which had been hardbound by some enterprising librarian many years previously (my personal copy of Franny and Zooey is the same - bought it from the Sydney University second hand bookshop for $4). It seemed to emanate a magical glow and boy, did I have a hard time giving it back to the library! I have two copies of my own - one pale yellow, one absolutely darling one that someone has pasted a little cover over and punched `TCITR' out in label-maker tape. I augmented it with a poem of my own in the back pages. I've always heard how corny the photo on the first American edition was. What did it look like? The illustration that accompanied `I'm Crazy' was pretty bizarre, in the face of what the book became later on it was like getting Norman Rockwell to illustrate Catch-22. Now here's something scary for you Yanks. The standard cover with the little rainbow in the corner is completely unknown in Australia. Strangely enough, I've never seen a copy with the dedication (`To My Mother'). Camille > Does this really work? I've been trying to get on this > list for some time now.
