First of all in America, no one's been read to in a
log cabin since Lincoln. Many of us were probably
read to in the bedrooms of split levels or ranches.

Both my parents read to me but my father read to me at
bedtime quite a lot. At first there were picture
books from the library and the little Golden Boooks,
later on he or my mother read from a book my mother
had heard about and purchased - a wonderful anthology
called "Story and Verse for Children", my brother and
I both called it 'the big green book'.
