I'm a member of several listserves that are somewhat academic in nature,
and of course recent events are being discussed everywhere. On one list
in particular the moderator has stepped in and said, "This discussion is
off topic, let's get back to Renaissance Lit."

In response, I've created a New Current Events Listserve with Yahoo
Groups to allow members of other listserves to continue fruitful
discussion about the Sept. 11 tragedy without posting their comments to
forums where they may be considered off topic. We have about fourteen
members so far and have been talking a bit already. All previous posts
are easily accessible from the digest webpage. You'll see it when you
register for the group.

To participate, you will need to create a Yahoo ID (it's free and you
can opt out of junk mail). The list itself can work one of three ways
-- you can view it by visiting a webpage, you can receive individual
e-mails, or you can receive a daily digest. Your level of involvement
and the amount of e-mail you receive, therefore, is completely under
your control.

If you'd like to subscribe, go to:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/acadcurrent

If you're not already a member of Yahoo Groups, you will probably be
asked to create a user ID.

Thank you, and I look forward to hearing from you both on this list and
on the new one.

Jim
