Seems like I remember having a similar discussion about Saving Private
Ryan last time I was around the list. I really can't judge how much a
movie is "like" a real experience. It's a medium of expression, like
everything else, and is limited. I think if we don't take into account
the limitation of film, then no, the movie could never be like the real
experience. There's no real danger of being shot and killed or blown to
pieces. And no certainty that if you survive, you will still have to
face the death or suffering of your comrades and enemies.

But as far as film goes (I haven't been watching Band of Brothers, but
have seen SPR), the first ten minutes of SPR "did it" for me. Like Tim,
yes, I suspended disbelief. For a few seconds, I was Freaking Scared.
I think film in that case took me as far as it could. Still not like
the real thing, no. I'm sitting comfortably in my seat while I'm
scared, not scared while running across a beach head in the face of live
fire.

But I was still pretty scared. Makes me appreciate those who went
through the real experience that much more...
