Oh, yeah, I said in my first response to you that Salinger was probably
thinking more along the lines of Eastern though. I mean, heck, there's
quotes from the Bhagavad Gita littered throughout FnZ. I'm just saying that
the idea didn't have to be limited to the Vedas and that there's a
Christian version of it.

Nah, you're not thick, that was a terrible sentence. I think I did
describe it more clearly in my first post to you, though -- don't quite
recall. Franny sees herself as being part of a big phony world, has higher
aspirations than that, doesn't see how she can serve anything higher than
phoniness by being an actress, but being an actress is important to her, so
she breaks down.

The revelation is that by identifying the phonies with "Christ" she can
serve her higher aspirations by serving them, being an actress, etc. She
doesn't have to go around reciting a Jesus' prayer all day long to be
spiritual.
