an off-list exchange got me to thinking about creative
responses to salinger's work. (i'll let him chime in
with his item.) until this morning, i could think only
of gordon lish's two efforts: 'for rupert'--the then
unsigned story in 'esquire' which caused a furor of
speculation-- and 'for jerome',--the hilarious 40+
page story which is a letter salinger's father writes
to his son jerome-- both in his book called,
'everything i know so far'. then there's the glass
parody, see:
http://members.tripod.com/~SundeepDougal/fritz.html
and along these lines, the time when someone took an
add in the nytimes (?) announcing that buddy glass
himself was publishing a book, 'benedictus'.
and in the nytimes, the occasion of the spoof titles
for forthcoming books, when it was announced that
salinger was publishing a volume titled 'the fall of
the house of glass.'
my question is, can any one think of other creative
responses to salinger's work....
