Re: The Shuffle (Formerly Da Bears)

Honestly, John -- no BS -- I have _very little_ idea what, exactly, you're
trying to communicate to me.

I don't think anyone is "exalted." Never said that. I know too many of these
ivory tower types personally to make that mistake.

I cited the large numbers of higher ed institutions not to make a "populist"
argument, but to demonstrate how _absolutely irrational_ it is to describe
_everyone_ engaged in "fueling the literary criticism industry" with this words:

>People who fuel the literary criticism industry: Good-for-nothing,
>God-forsaken, supercilious academicians; -- John

What does that word "fueling" mean? Writing criticism? Reading criticism?
Publishing criticism? I assume all -- which would simply inflate the numbers of
people you're generalizing about.

I called you a bigot, John, because since there are over 4000 institutions of
higher ed in the US, there are tens of thousands of people "fueling the literary
criticism industry" -- and in you're omniscience, you _know_ that they are _all_

>Good-for-nothing,
>God-forsaken, supercilious academicians; -- John

What would people be saying if you had said, "Jews are Good for nothing,
God-forsaken, and supercilious." Or "Blacks are Good for nothing, God-forsaken,
and supercilious." Or, "Puerto Ricans are Good for nothing, God-forsaken, and
supercilious."

I'd hope more people would take issue with you.

You just can't characterize entire groups of human beings with those words
without expecting someone to have a problem with that.

If you don't understand what I've been saying to you, it's not my fault. I
can't get any clearer than this.

Jim
