PS Thanks for the response. I think the nonsense shorthand does get
used quite a bit in chatrooms (seems like the guy was particularly
referencing those), but less in e-mail and message boards.
PPS Did anyone here read the review of the latest anthology of Updike's
short stories in The Atlantic Monthly? It's not on the site yet, but is
worth reading just for the way the reviewer praises Updike's prose. I'd
quote a few lines if I had the magazine with me...
