jen, welcome and thanks for some good ideas! In fact, when catcher was published in l951, it had a big back cover picture of mr. salinger and he demanded it be removed from all other edtions of the book--since that incident, his book covers have omitted his picture and been very straightforward but I was struck by your connection since it may be that mr. salinger felt his picture made readers focus on the wrong image...like graffiti "stealing" attention for itself, perhaps mr. salinger felt his picture was not letting readers see the real mr. salinger. He's indicated in later work that he is really in the pages of his fiction for readers and not any where else that's important for readers...will On Thu, 9 Oct 1997, Jennifer Wu wrote: > hello, i haven't had a chance to introduce myself with everyone, but i > guess i was just waiting for a time when i can have a little input in the > discussion. > i just wanted to ponder over something with the rest of you. the whole > deal with cover art .. . . does anyone think thats in regard to catcher? > i'm not too sure about the facts here or anything in regards to what > salinger wanted, but holden talks about the grafitti on the walls at his > sister's school and wishes that he could erase all of them. maybe thats > why the covers are so barren . . . ? > -jen > > > > >
