You never heard of James Stewart. (Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, Vertigo) him and Robert Mitchum were two of Hollywoood's biggest stars back in the 50's and still reamain so today. Tom Hanks is a second generation Stewart while Cage and Pean are more along the lines of Mitchum. Other notable actors who take cues from them are Eastwood, Hoffman, Ford, and and some would say De Niro/Pacino.
