In the novel SHOELESS JOE, which FIELD OF DREAMS was based on, JD is a
character. The James Earl Jones character in the film was JD in the book
(changed in the film for legal reasons). There are many references to
CATCHER in the book, it seems the authors father has the same name as a
character in CATCHER. A beautifully written book.
