As far as semiotics goes, I simply mean that as soon as we read something Harold Ober-esque, our first thought is `Oh, here we go. Someone is trying to shut us up ...' The semiotics and the actual meaning are two different things. It's like if you saw a big red octagonal sign with `GO' written on it. You'd probably stop before you actually obeyed the `go'.
