Why do you say Jane is your favorite female character? I wouldn't pick her because we really don't have a good grasp on her (only what Holden describes her as). I haven't read all of Salinger's books but I've read a number of his short stories, Catcher, and now 9 stories. So far I think my vote would be for Pheobe.
