Well, here I am back to work after eating lunch and I've thought about = casting my vote for Jane Gallager. She is a character who I really like. = Since we see her as Holden sees her, she comes across so pure and = unsullied by the world in comparison to all the other women in Catcher = (except Phoebe of course). Still I must in good conscience retract my vote = for Jane and cast my real vote. I vote for Esme; for her terrific singing voice and the way the wings of = her nostrils give her away when she yawns. And because she represents to = me the saving redemption found in innocence, purity, and youth. I wouldn't pick her because we really don't have a good grasp on her (only what Holden describes her as). I haven't read all of Salinger's books but I've read a number of his short stories, Catcher, and now 9 stories. So far I think my vote would be for Pheobe. Is that an obvious choice? =20 akemi =20
