Jim, the champion of thought system imposition in Salinger Criticism IMHO
is Sandor Rot who wrote an article in 8pt print with graphs included
called "J.D. Salinger's Oeuvre in the Light of Decoding Sylistics and
Information Theory." Now don't get me wrong, Shannon's sense of
information makes sense of lots of things for me, but Rot uses Information
Theory to link Catcher and Huck Finn in some contrived but true ways that
seem to justify Information Theory and Decoding Stylistics beyond any
sense of the text that seems within most reading experiences...can't
believe I'm rereading it because the author is targeting "objective
assessment" and in literature, I prefer subjectivity, especially when
it's well done...maybe Matt K or someone is going to read this post and
link Stanley Fish's work with subjectivity and stylistics to Rot's work,
but I'm not able...will
