what I great story!! Tuli was laying down between sets
by the Fugs at a small club in Cambridge MA in '90 or
'91. I gave him my copy of the Fugs first album to
sign - he was tired and smiled but didn't even get up.
He raised one arm to grab a ballpoint pen from
someone and signed the back cover, still laying down,
printing his first name only in large sloppy block
letters.

And of course you would receive a handwritten letter
in *red* marker - I mean the man is a
*Communist*!...God bless him.

For 1001 ways to avoid the draft you might try
www.abebooks.com or "bibliofind" another site for out
print books.

He also did a record entitled something like
"No Experience Necessary" which had some connection
with the East village Other which was put out on ESP
records in the late 60's (ESP also did another great
release with William Burroughs reading from Naked
Lunch and Nova Express/// HEY COME ON HOW BUDDY, THIS
IS THE *SALINGER LIST* YOU WANT THE BEATS LISTSERVE
GO ELSEWHERE.../// when you hear Burroughs reading the
disjointed style of those books comes into focus.
Various ESP releases are out on CD - imports from
Germany or Italy, I think)

ah slumgoddess
weary of time...
slumgoddess of the lower east side
slumgoddess gonna make you my bride
(Fugs 1st LP - 1966)
