Fellow fishes,

With *our* 20th century really winding down, I thought it might be fun, over
the next month or two,  to have each fish list her/his favorite (or
favourite) *twenty books published in the 20th century.*  (Yes, anything on
the nightstand or at the claw foot of the bathtub, from "The Joy of Sex" to
"Structure, Sign and Play in the Discourse of the Human Sciences," is fine.)

Price Waterhouse will tabulate the results.  The twenty winners (the titles
most often sung out in a clear, loud voice) will be announced on January 1,
2000, from a hilltop in Cornish, New Hampshire.
