Oh gawd.

Do a websearch on Borges, and read the little intro to him at The Libyrinth.  
It's a good place to start.  Then I'd pick up an anthology of his 
works...probably short stories and a few essays.  His Personal Anthology is 
good enough.  Umberto Eco was strongly influenced by this guy, so perhaps if 
you can find some works by Eco on Borges that might be useful as well.
