Dear Otto,

First of all, welcome to the list. Second, short quotes of Salinger's
material are not inappropriate, so long as they are part of a discussion of
a "scholarly" nature. I think that when you do quote, you should limit
yourself to less than six(?) lines, and if you need to use more than that,
you should paraphrase. (Did I get that right, guys?)

I think that the key to this is that the fellow who wrote all this doesn't
like it when people use his words too freely, and we try to respect his
wishes. If ever this list started being used as a method of distributing
Salinger's unpublished stories, especially considering that most listmembers
are aware that he is against it, Someone might take Action, and We Don't
Want That.

So we play within the rules, and everybody's happy.

Regards,
Cecilia.
