Hey Will!

I've pinned my ticket on the bulletin board in my office, between tickets
for Fenway and Tiger Stadiums (sic), beside tickets for Game 6 of the 1993
World Series.

...and if I weren't such a cyberpeasant, I'd e-mail you a video attachment
of a triple play--But we're drifting away from JDS, and perhaps towards some
other chatlist....

Cecilia will be pleased to know that all conversation about the
Salingerina's book was limited to the time it took a 94 mph Rocket Roger
fastball to travel from the mound to home plate. He was apparently still
pitching 94 mph fastballs when they pulled him--which is probably why he was
so pissed off. But I'm drifing away again.... I did once hear Tim tell
Will that he was only 1/3 of the way through it. I looked at the moon.

Scottie will probably be amused to learn that Will escaped a faculty
meeting--pleading "academically important meeting with bananafish" as his
excuse for leaving early--to sit with Tim and me in Yankee Stadium. Have
any patients previously asked you to verify such an excuse with a doctor's
letter? Do you think there's any psychological ground for granting him long
term disability?

Bruce, I'm sorry for all this baseball stuff.

The day after the game, while waiting for the bus to LaGuardia, I paid my
traditional pilgrimmage to Grand Central. There were a few guys wearing
real leather shoes crossing the awesome interior of that vast hall. I
closed my eyes, listened hard, and tried to think of Holden. Something
Mattis had said to me in Greeley Square the previous morning came crashing
back into my foreconsciousness:

"One out of three ain't bad."

I've just picked up my copy of Nine Stories.... From the Northern League,
there's no doubt.... APDFB..... From the Central League, it's almost as
obvious.... FEWLaS..... And in the Southern League, it was a closer
race.... Won in the last moments of the last game by DDSBP.... The Wild
Card, miraculously, goes to "The Laughing Man", because in THIS arrangement,
the Wild Card revolves between leagues....

Bruce, I'm REALLY sorry, but even when I try to talk JDS I drift into
baseball....

Thanks Will. Thanks Tim.

Carlos will win us the Wild Card!

Cheers,

Paul
